IMPROV 101: Games
Learn the basics of improv with a focus on classic and fun improv games. The games do the work and you have the fun. This class focuses on group games similar to those seen on Whose Line Is it. Laugh, learn and grow. The games chance each session for more fun.

Explore long form improv, characters and scenes. Take your work to the next level.
IMPROV FROM THE HEART
Learn to improv on a deeper level. This class focuses on finding and exploring the emotion of the moment. This transformative work explores the intersection between Meisner Technique and Voila Spolin’s Theater Games. The focus is on finding and honoring your truth. This is NOT a class in comedy improv.
Learn from a veteran improvisor and actor. Jaime is an alumni of Second City and appears in Modern Family, Parks and Rec and Bob’s Burgers. Learn her improv secrets in this exciting two day workshop.
IMPROV DOJO
The Improv Dojo is a mixed level drop-in stye class. The class is popular with both novel and experienced improvisors looking to get their feet wet at Pan Theater.
IMPROV 201
Explore scenes and long form improv on a deeper level. The 2 person scene is the heart of improv theater. In Improv 201 we’ll explore what makes scenes work and how to improvise more and script less. Topics include relationships, open scenes, game based scenes and long form improv.

IMPROV AUDITIONS
If you have already taken 101 or have similar experience and want to start performing - auditions for Pan house teams are the way to go. Teams practice and perform weekly. Join part of a vibrant performing community.
ABOUT PAN THEATER CLASSES
Pan Theater has been offering improv classes, training and performances since February of 2002. We got started at the 21 Grand Art Space in Oakland.
If you are ready to jump start your improv Pan’s 101, 201 and performing troupes are the path. For those looking for a more casual approach or wanting more practice we recommend the Improv Dojo series. The Dojos are drop-in style and reasonably priced. We offer the Improv Dojo in Oakland and San Francisco.
Pan Theater offers classes in Oakland (the East Bay), San Francisco and in Tokyo, Japan (Shinjuku area). Pan’s style combines Spolin based theater games, Meisner Technique, long form style and our own unique training methods. Our style is organic and we strive to create improv that will make audiences laugh, cry or sit on the edge of their seats.
Our work focuses on creating live improvised theater without a script. The work is often funny, sometimes dramatic and other times - like life absurd and unpredictable.
We encourage risk taking, learning through experience, and balancing action with mindfulness (silence) and emotion. Comedy is the by product of good improv not the first focus but the result of playing to the top of your intelligence with honest emotion.
Ours style fosters humble performers that are strong team players and strong actors. Pal alumni can be found throughout the Bay Area, in Los Angeles, in NYC and also in Tokyo.
We were one of the first improv theaters to develop rules to help beginners.
