SARAH`S IMPROV FROM THE HEART EXPERIENCE
1) What was the obstacle that would have kept you from taking IFH?
Feeling as though I wasn't 'advanced' enough in improv skills, or feeling as though this class is only for 'real' 'professional' actors.
2) What did you find as a result of taking IFH?
I respond very well to structure. I have a lot of social considtioning that makes me want to smooth everything over, but it doesn't take much for me to drop that as long as I'm around people who are okay with me being honest.
3) What did you like most about IFH?
I enjoyed focusing on the repetition exercise because it is simple but also endless in depth. It gives me greater awareness of how I'm feeling and how others are feeling. I get to learn about and experience being human through the mirror of having a partner, or observing myself.
4) What other benefits did you get out of taking IFH?
I enjoyed connecting with other people in person because after the lockdowns I feel like I need 'rehabilitation' in terms of how to just be physically around others again. I really enjoyed the level playing field, or safe container, set up by David, where we all have the same rules applied across the board. I really enjoy feeling deeply and then letting it go, because that is great practice for being in 'the real world' and not taking things so personally all of the time.
5) Would you recommend IFH? If so, why?
Yes.
Human beings cannot thrive in isolation. We need groups to help us know how to be in the world, how to respond and support each other, and to understand who we are as individuals. This class is about being humble, being vulnerable, being brave, and being seen. It is great 'rehabilitation' for anyone who felt impacted by the years of isolation. It's also great for actors and artists of all levels to deepen their curiosity about human nature, fine tune their sensitivity to emotions and experiences, and any performer who is interested in becoming more honest in their work.
